How would you transport a Meade 14" LX200R telescope?

I have a 14" LX200R telescope in my house and i need to be able to transport it to observing sites but I have not been able to think of any ways of getting it about easily

Try JMI – http://jmitelescopes.com/ . They make wheeled carrying cases for large scopes like that.

Show off! I’m jealous! However, a 14" is not truly portable. Most people with one of those either have a site like a roof or backyard to mount it permanently, or they have a truck or trailer to cart it around in–carefull, since the optics can be knocked about when jarred.

Very Carefully!!! Mine is not nearly as fancy as yours but I took it with me to a very rugged outdoor festival in the Nevada desert last summer. I dismantled it and used sturdy suitcases with lots and lots of bubble wrap. Made it there and back without any problems. Hope this helps – probably not worth the work if your just going across town.

You remember how you asked whether you should buy the 10", 12" or 14" scope and I said "Those 14 inch scopes are HUGE – have you used one or even seen one in the flesh? They really need to be set up permanently – they are just too big to regularly be moved."

Next time, you have to listen!

The 14" LX200R is really an observatory type telescope though and wasn’t built for portability.
