I am looking at the Nikon D70 is that a good one?
There are actually two DSLR’s made for shooting astrophotography (have extended UV and IR sensitivity)
The Canon 20Da and Fujifilm Finepix IS Pro

I don’t know much on the infrared photography but on astrophotography its not going to rely on camera body as much as it is your lens or telescope. It all depends on how much money you are wanting to spend. Check out http://www.astropix.com they have guides from cameras, to lens to how to’s. You might be able to pick up alot of helpful tips and tricks from there.

For IR you really should get a conversion. It’s about $300 send away. Filters are a pain in the butt and near impossible to use (without punching the damn thing).
Astro, you need a fancy telescope with a camera mount adapter. film is better for the sake of overheating the sensor. You can get away with it in winter but when it’s 103 and 97% humidity 3 in the morning, boom sha-lock-lock boom.
